Feature Nail - Part 2

As you can see from our previous post on feature nails, we truly are adopting this trend as one of our favourites. It shows how you as an individual can combine two colours/styles and make it your own and quite frankly we love to express ourselves and our individuality through our nail varnish choices.

For these nails we used Barry M Blue Moon as the main colour and Rimmel London Disco Ball as the feature nail. Although the names sound great and the colours are lovely and bright, the actual varnish is a bit of a pain.
The Barry M took three coats to look opaque enough and it took forever to dry-note the slight smudges on the nails.
The feature nails have a base coat of Blue Moon and the top coat of Disco Ball. The top coat also took three coats in order for there to be enough sparkle. The Rimmel is of a gel consistency and a day later it still moves a bit on the nail. We absolutely love the colours as they look great with both casual wear and going out outfits, but we're slightly disappointed at the consistency of them.
If you have a lot of patience when it comes to doing your nails then we would recommend you at least try them- remember people can see these things differently to others, we all have our own opinions- but if you're like us and just too busy to be sat down waiting for your nails to dry, then unfortunately this is not a favorite.

We have also tried Essie in Smooth Sailing as our main nail colour and Topshop in Eyes of Steel for our feature nail. We love these. The Essie took two coats and dried reasonably quickly. It is a soft navy blue colour- it actually has hints of a denim effect to it! The actual varnish is a great consistency so it dries lovely and smooth on your nails (no clumps thank god). The Topshop varnish is one of my personal favourites (M), it dries at an average speed for shimmer varnishes (they always seem to take longer to be completely dry) and the colour is  gorgeous! The main colour is purple but it shimmers so much that it looks gold and silver in certain lights as well and it lasts around a week- so not bad!
Overall we would definitely recommend these two and even if you're not too sure about the two colours together, they look great with other colours as well.

What's your favourite colours to wear and pair together?
What colour nail polish do you feel best represents you?

Our Week in Photos 2

So we didn't manage to get a wednesday post last week - So much revision, so many exams! :(
However we did manage to get a post up yesterday and a quick catch up of our week in photos today, who knows maybe even another post tomorrow...

This week we left college and our revision will unfortunately be continuing into mid-June when our exams finally end. Although our week has been jam packed we have also found time to do a bit of baking and one of us even got a kitten, Bella - how cute is she?

This week we have been into the trend of patterns and a pattern that we are adoring is crosses, there are many sets of jewellery that revolve around crosses, ours is from River Island and we love it!

WE LOVE LONDON!
A day trip to London was most definitely the highlight of our week and we are hoping to go back with fashion and beauty as the central focus of the trip.

Once again a short and sweet post but we like keeping you updated.

How has your week been?
Have you done anything interesting, purchased a must have item?
Let us know,

Feature Nail

With the trend of feature nails growing we thought that we would choose our feature nail to be our ring finger, and what better way to do to it than with glitter?

Sally Hansen, advertised as:
"America's favourite brand, now hitting UK high street stores."
Convinced us to purchase (not that it takes a lot of convincing for us when it comes down to buying new cosmetics, to experiment with and review) some of the company's varnishes, and we hoped they would soon be a favourite nail brand of ours!
Every girl loves glitter, right?

We decided to team Sally Hansen - Glitz Glam 08 (£6.99) as our feature nail with No 7 - Mint Treat Jel-Look Shine (£6.00), although it looks like an aqua sea blue.
The brush makes the polish easy to apply, however the first coat was weak and runny so make sure you allow time for it to dry before applying the second coat. With a top coat the polish doesn't have a "shimmer" as such, however the Jel-Look does create a shine when the polish hits with light. Although we love the colour we would suggest applying at least two top coats ensuring that the polish doesn't chip. (mine chipped after 2 day's, just a bit disappointing! -B)
Gem Crush Glitz Glam also was weak from the first application and the brush was too thin to cover the whole nail in one, however the polish didn't streak and was thick enough after three coats. After drying it appeared to produce a muted sparkle and even after a top coat the texture of the nail polish is uneven and of a gravel texture.
If you were to purchase these nail varnishes to accompany a casual or going out outfit we'd advise you give the nail varnish time to dry so you have no smudges and to apply at least 2 top coats to ensure that it lasts long!

What do you think of having a "feature nail"?
Have your tried having a "feature nail" or a similar trend?
Have you had a good bank holiday?
We'd love to hear from you,

Our Week in Photos!

Hi guys!
We're sorry about our lack of blog posts this past week. We do intend to have regular posts every Wednesday but these next few weeks may be a bit on and off as we are both sitting our A levels. No need to worry though, we'll be back with regular posts at least once a week by mid June!

We have so many great ideas for posts so we can't wait to get back to putting all our efforts into this for you guys.

The main point of this post though is to announce a new regular post we'll be doing: 'Our Week in Photos' which will be posted every weekend! It won't be too long but it'll be an update on what we've been doing, and things we've loved during the week- a nice little extra.

We love having feature nails- they make everything seem that little bit more summery!
As you can see we've been planning more posts and getting things ready for you guys.

Summer is possibly our favourite time of year and to get us into the mood we're currently loving Beyonce's album, 4, and Gabrielle Aplin's new single, Panic Chord.
Also- we're currently obsessed with mango Rubicon and mixed fruits!

Not overly compelling but we hope you enjoyed it.
What do you think of us doing 'Our Week in Photos' posts? Do you guys love summer as much as us?
We'd love to hear from you,
Until Wednesday (hopefully)
Love,

The Benefits of Elle

So unbeknown to both of us, we both nipped out on the same day to get this month's issue of Elle, and we have no regrets. Elle is one of our favourite monthly fashion magazines, especially with the celebrity interviews, beauty advice, latest fashion updates, and even a travel section. You'd definitely be hard-pressed to have a reasonable excuse to dislike it. It's like our very own fashion bible with fabulous monthly installments, and beautiful women (apart from the David Beckham issue- although there's no denying he's beautiful) on the front cover, making us here at Aurora Glow green with envy.
This month's issue features the talented Miley Cyrus, and we love it.

The bold outfits she wears in her shoot emphasise her drastic, yet amazingly well pulled off new hair style.

Although we could potentially sit and write about our love for Elle all day, in today's post we are also looking at the Benefit mascara that came FREE (yes you heard us correctly) in this month's issue- okay so we're not completely leaving the Elle topic, but still.

With it being Benefit we had high hopes for the mascara, and were really rooting for it to look as great as it does advertised and we weren't disappointed. Although the results aren't quite as great as it shows on the packaging, it's still impressive.

Above is an image of us trying the mascara out for ourselves. As you can see, there's quite a difference and this was with only two quick coats. We also love the brush! It's a plastic one- which we personally prefer- so coverage was even and it was very easy to apply. We also find that after wearing mascara for a few hours it starts to go bitty and comes off a little, but there's none of that with this- it lasts ages! We're very impressed.

Overall we're extremely happy with this month's issue of Elle and would recommend it to anyone. We love the mascara that much that we will more than likely be buying another when ours run out!

Have any of you bought this month's issue? If so, what do you think?

Grandpa style

I'ma take your Grandpa's style.
As said in the hit by Macklemore and Ryan Lewis.

So we're all for vintage clothing here at Aurora Glow but has anyone actually worn their Grandpa's clothes? We certainly haven't. But that then gave us the idea- what would we look like if we did? This was a thought we couldn't pass on and decided to try it out for ourselves, so here are some images showcasing the latest trends from our Grandpa's clothes, teamed with vintage and modern.

*striped polo shirt and navy jacket - Grandpa's clothes*

Not all of your grandpa's clothing is terrible, and you could be surprised at what relatives have hiding away in their wardrobes- a lot may be similar to what you find in vintage stores. As we discovered one of our Grandpa's was hiding a designer Ralph Lauren jumper. You could pair it with leggings and even a vintage denim jacket to complete the look.

A well known Youtuber who displays his quirky personality through vintage/thrift clothing is Sam Pepper.

Have you ever worn your grandad's clothes? If so, what items? And more importantly did you manage to pull them off?
We'd love to hear from you!
Till next time

Sinful Colors Professional

Today's second post (speedy keenos, we know) is on our new favourite nail polish brand, Sinful Colors Professional.
These colours were definitely an impulse buy, but not something we regret. With the vast variety of colours, ranging from pastels right through to chrome, you will be sure to find the perfect one for you.

(from left to right: Call You Later 932, Frenzy 922, Pink Forever 313, Under 18 298, Matte Nirvana 949, Black on Black 103)

From personal experience, no base or top coat was required, although Black on Black chips after a couple of days so we say definitely put a top coat on for maximum usage. The sparkly colours- Call you Later and Frenzy - look better with a base coat. We'd recommend black for both although most colours would suit.
Both Frenzy and Under 18 have lasted for 1 week so far (with the wearers having normal daily routines and no strenuous work) without chips, and only two coats were required- bonus!

The collection is an American brand although we live in the UK and these can be found online or purchased in store at Boots.
Below are the UK and US links for the nail varnish. (If you're from the US you can buy them in store at places such as Walmart).
For only £1.99/ $1.99 you really can't go wrong!

We are currently unsure of where this brand is sold elsewhere- although the website states that the brand has spread to Europe and Asia- but if you are wanting to find out or you already know, drop us a comment!

Do you own any of the collection by Sinful Colors Professional? If so whats you favourite colour and would recommend them?

Till next Wednesday,

Pepe Jeans SS13

Today we thought that we would do a quick follow up post on denim jackets.
After seeing the latest Pepe campaign for SS13 (Spring/Summer 2013) we felt that we had to bring it to your attention.
With the worlds most talked about female supermodel of the moment, Cara Delevingne, starring along side actress and model Mia Goth (signed to Storm Model Agency and rumoured girlfriend of Shia Labeouf! - Jealous much?!) and supermodel Jeremy Young (returning Pepe Jeans model F/W 10 and Burberry model) it is the perfect SS13 campaign.

The campaign has a very patriotic feel to it with Cara's jeans in the top image and the British bull dog featured. With summer approaching, it'll be the perfect collection for any fashion lover.

What do you think of the Pepe SS13 campaign and the chosen models? What are your favourite items from the SS13 Pepe range?
Let us know,
